Our wellness day blog this week is one with a difference - as we`re focussing on some techy tips ...
If you`re feeling too ill or exhausted to get out of bed or out and about, having a laptop or notebook can be an essential distraction in your day. You may use it to keep contact with friends and family, watch a dvd or play a game, however, if your computer is freezing - it may be too hot!
It`s worth knowing that if you`re using your computer on your lap, or if its placed on a duvet in bed, then the vents can get blocked and this risks some serious damage (overheating!)
Coupled with the fact that computers don`t like warm weather (and wow it`s been hot) you could find your computer`s behaving oddly, or even crashing!
If this is happening, it can cause some permanent and very expensive damage so try placing your computer on a tray, or better yet, on the adjustable table, and this way you can make sure all the vents are free from obstruction! Make sure the tray is dry and be extra careful if your water jug and glass is in this area as it`s too easy for things to get knocked over...
We`re also aware that some of our friends are having a range of treatments and finding the heat horrible :( We suggest you ask your nurse for a fan to help circulate the air, try ice packs on the wrists, and a cold wet towel on the neck to help keep you cool. If you`re stuck in a hospital bed, ask if there can be a double layer of cotton sheets over the mattress - as this can help to stop you feeling sticky!
HOWEVER - BE SAFE WHEN USING TECHNOLOGY: Ice is WATER and computers use ELECTRICITY and this combination can be FATAL!
